Cataract Surgery

CATARACT SURGERY

A cataract is a gradually clouding of the lens in our eye. This occurs with aging as UV rays from the sun oxidize the naturally clear lens with which we are born. As our lens becomes increasingly cloudy, our vision becomes increasingly blurry, and at some point our visual symptoms will be severe enough that the cataractous lens will have to be removed from our eye. This is done in an out-patient surgical setting where an eye surgeon will remove the cataractous lens and replace it with an artificial lens.

PREMIUM INTRA-OCULAR LENSES

Cataract surgery allows for restoration of good vision by replacing our cloudy cataractous natural lens with an artifical lens. At South Coast Eye Care centers we offer the latest artificial lens technology to provide the best vision possible as well as the smallest dependence on eyeglasses after surgery.

Toric intra-ocular lenses

Correct astigmatism so that the need for glasses at one distance will be minimized. Glasses at other distances will be needed.

Multifocal intra-ocular lenses

Corrects at multiple distances so that need for glasses at multiple distances will be minimized. Glasses to sharpen vision may be needed in dim lighting, at some distances and in low light conditions.

LASER ASSISTED CATARACT SURGERY

We also offer the latest technology in laser assisted cataract surgery. Laser assisted cataract removal is more accurate than traditional cataract surgery and is also less traumatic to the eye.
